The United States announced in May more than $500 million in drought aid for the Horn of Africa, a pledge contributing to the United Nations' request for $7 billion in assistance for the region. U.S. ambassador to the U.N. Linda Thomas-Greenfield has appealed to the international community to provide more humanitarian assistance to the region.
