UN Education Fund Provides $3 Million Grant for Refugee Children in Chad
A $3 million First Emergency Response grant has been announced by Education Cannot Wait (ECW), a U.N. global fund for education in emergencies and protracted crises, following a high-level field mission with the U.N. High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) to the border regions of Chad with Sudan, where 60,000 refugees have recently arrived. The funding will provide access to safe and protective learning environments for incoming refugee girls and boys and support the host communities. "The total need in the Regional Refugee Response Plan for UNHCR in Chad is $8 million for education, and ECW is now coming in with $3 million. I hereby urge all donors and strategic partners to help us fill the remaining gap of $5 million,” ECW executive director Yasmine Sherif said.
