Ugandan Minister Charged for Corruption
A Ugandan court charged a minister Thursday with several corruption offenses for allegedly diverting metal roofing sheets meant to help people in the restive north-eastern Karamoja region, court documents showed. Karamoja Affairs Minister Mary Goretti Kitutu appeared alongside her brother in the Kampala court. Her charges include "loss of public property" and "conspiracy to defraud", Kampala Anti-Corruption Court papers seen by Reuters showed. Located in a remote region bordering Kenya and South Sudan, Karamoja region is home to pastoral nomads vulnerable to frequent droughts and deadly cattle raids. Kitutu who's pleaded not guilty to all charges, could not be reached for immediate comment according to Reuters. She is scheduled to reappear in court on April 12.
