Nigerian civil society group blasts fuel hike, warns of protests
An ultimatum calling on Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order a reversal of a recent fuel increase expires Tuesday. Issued by the civil society group called Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), the warning calls on the president to instruct the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited - the state regulator – to immediately reverse the recent price increase. This, after the regulator announced a rise in fuel price from 37 cents to 54 cents per liter. Kolawole Oluwadare, Deputy Director of SERAP, tells VOA's Peter Clottey, the fuel price increase will further impoverish Nigerians arguing that the move is illegal
