Analysis: The Future of Wagner
Russian authorities said the head of the Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, was killed Wednesday in a plane crash north of Moscow. Russia’s civil aviation authority said Prigozhin was among 10 people on board the private jet that went down on route from Moscow to St. Petersburg. The crash comes two months after Prigozhin led a brief rebellion against the Russian military that President Vladimir Putin labeled as treason. For more on Prigozhin’s death and the future of the Wagner Group, VOA’s Esther Githui-Ewart spoke to Joseph Siegle, director of research with the Africa Center for Strategic Studies at the National Defense University.
