Aid Shortfall Leaves Refugees in Uganda Struggling for Food
Urgent global crises such as the war in Ukraine, the earthquake in Turkey and the drought in East Africa, have led to shortages of food aid for people like Susan Konga, a South Sudanese single mother living in a refugee camp in northern Uganda. A roughly 50% shortfall in funds this year has forced the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to cut off the food supply for hundreds of thousands of refugees in Uganda, the country hosting more than any other in Africa. "For me to become sustainable it will take me more than three years because now I don't have enough land," Konga said, adding "If I'm not supported, I can't stand on my own.”
