Liberia’s anti-graft agency probes plot to oust House Speaker
Liberia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) says it will investigate allegations of bribery to overthrow the Speaker of the House of Representatives, J. Fonati Koffa. According to local media, one member of the House confessed that he and other lawmakers received bribes of US$25,000 each to support a resolution to remove the Speaker, with $15,000 paid up front. LACC Chairperson Alexandra Kormah Zoe says Liberian laws prohibit public servants from soliciting and receiving bribes. She tells VOA’s James Butty, anyone found culpable will be prosecuted irrespective of their official status.
