In 2003, U.S. President George W. Bush launched the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR. The program has been instrumental in providing funding for HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care, and support services, particularly in countries with high prevalence rates. One of PEPFAR's most significant achievements has been the provision of anti-retroviral treatment to millions of people living with HIV.
