HON. JEFF FORTENBERRY, R, NEBRASKA Host Carol Castiel and VOA congressional correspondent Cindy Saine, talk with Hon. Jeff Fortenberry, a Republican congressman from the Midwestern state of Nebraska, who serves on the House Appropriations Committee. He is also co-chair of the Religious Minorities in the Middle East Caucus. In light of systemic atrocities perpetrated against religious and ethnic minorities such as Yazidis, Kurds and Christians by the so-called Islamic State or ISIS, Fortenberry co-sponsored a resolution, which passed unanimously in the House of Representatives, designating such atrocities by ISIS as “acts of genocide.” He discusses the significance and implications of this resolution, US policy towards Iran, US-Cuba relations in light of US President Barack Obama’s historic trip to the island nation, and other domestic policy issues in this critical election year.
