ALI SOUFAN, THE SOUFAN GROUP On this edition of the program Carol Castiel talks with Ali Soufan, a leading national security and counter-terrorism expert and CEO of the New York-based Soufan Group about the recent al Shabab attack in Nairobi and how al Qaida has evolved from being an organization that “operates” to an organization that motivates. Therefore, Soufan tells Castiel that “finding and arresting operatives or disrupting operations” is necessary, but to combat the roots of violent extremism we must also “counter the narratives” that attract individuals to terrorist organizations to begin with.
