WHO: African Youth are Facing Drug Addiction
The World Health Organization has warned that many young Africans are turning to substance abuse. The United Nations predicts that by 2030 the number of drug users in Africa will increase substantially. Despite known negative health and social consequences on affected individuals and their communities, doctors say this phenomenon has not been adequately addressed across the African continent. For more on the causes of drug addiction as well as treatment, VOA’s Mkamiti Kibayasi spoke to Dr. Laureen Kemunto, a general practitioner based in Nairobi, Kenya.
