US Celebrates Juneteenth Federal Holiday
On Sunday, June 19, Americans will celebrate Juneteenth, the newest federal holiday, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved people in Texas. U.S. President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth holiday into law last year, but there was little celebration due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Africa 54 host Esther Githui-Ewart spoke to Melvin Foote, CEO and president of Constituency for Africa, about the significance of Juneteenth.
