UN seeks $2.5 billion for DRC aid as blast kills scores at M23 rally
The United Nations, along with its partners and the Democratic Republic of Congo government, Thursday launched a $2.5 billion Humanitarian Response Plan for the people of eastern DRC. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the plan seeks $2.5 billion this year to provide life-saving assistance and protection for 11 million people, including 7.8 million internally displaced in DRC. Meanwhile, an explosion Thursday at an M23 rally in the eastern city of Bukavu killed 11 people and injured 65 others, according to Reuters news agency.
