Tanzania Women Groups Rally Against Gender Violence
update
Women’s rights organizations in Tanzania are observing the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence which began November 25 and runs through December 10. At a recent event, some called for fielding independent candidates during elections to free women from what they called a patriarch-based nomination process. Media practitioner and gender activist Halima Shariff tells VOA’s James Butty, that having independent candidates would enable competent women to jump in and defend women’s rights.
