A spokesperson says the Tanzanian government is committed to free speech. However, Thobias Makoba says that particular right comes with responsibility. This, after the Communications Regulatory Authority, a government-run body, suspended for one month the licenses of four of the company’s print and digital publications, including The Citizen newspaper. The body accuses them of publishing what it calls “prohibited content.” The suspension comes as Tanzanians are expressing concern about recent abductions and killings in the country. Government spokesperson Makoba told VOA’s James Butty, the government encourages media houses to practice responsible journalism
