Activists in Juba have noted a significant rise in domestic violence cases throughout 2023. Riya William Yuyada, who leads Crown the Woman-South Sudan, a women's non-profit organization, emphasizes that many perpetrators of domestic violence in South Sudan go unpunished. She told VOA's John Tanza her organization is urging the signatories of the 2018 agreement to prioritize the implementation of chapter five, focused on justice reforms to address and rectify this alarming issue.
