The South Sudan peace talks in Kenya, known as the Tumaini Initiative, broke down for the third time over the weekend. The talks, between the South Sudan government and the armed groups considered to be “peace holdouts” have been going on for more than 10 months under the auspices of the Kenyan government. Pagan Amum is leader of the United People’s Alliance, a grouping of seven political parties. He says the government walked out of the talks because it does not want peace in the country. South Sudan government officials were not immediately available to comment.
