South Africa’s EFF rejects government coalition with DA
Floyd Shivambu, the deputy president of South Africa’s fourth most popular political party, the Economic Freedom Fighters, EFF, said its leaders reject any talk of a government of national unity, GNU, with the governing African National Congress, ANC. The EFF will not “form any government” with the main opposition party, the Democratic Alliance, Shivambu said. The comments by the EFF leader were in reaction to an announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday after he said the ANC is pursuing a broad coalition with all political parties to form South Africa’s next government after the ruling party failed to secure over 50% of the votes in the elections.
