People in Rome Bid Former Pontiff Farewell
Tens of thousands of people queued into St. Peter's Basilica on Monday to pay their respects to former Pope Benedict XVI.Benedict died on New Year's eve at the age of 95 in the secluded Vatican monastery where he had lived since his resignation in 2013. The body of the late Pontiff will lie in state in the Basilica for three days before his funeral on Thursday January 5 which will be held in St. Peter's Square, in front of the basilica. The ceremony will begin at 8:30 GMT and be presided over by Pope Francis.
