The Nigeria Labor Congress, the Trade Union Congress and others began another nationwide strike on Tuesday despite a court restraining order. Strikes were held earlier this year over the federal government’s suspension of a fuel subsidy and unions’ demand for a new minimum wage for civil servants. Benson Ukpa, head of Information and Public Affairs at the Nigeria Labor Congress, tells VOA’s James Butty the latest strike is about an assault on Labor Congress President Joe Ajaero, while leading a protest in Imo State over unpaid salaries and pensions.
