Niger PM: Sanctions Disastrous for Country
Niger's Prime Minister Ouhoumoudou Mahamadou said the sanctions imposed by the West African nations bloc, ECOWAS, would be "disastrous" as the country "relies heavily on its partnership with the international community." "Turning one's back on this aid is suicide," Mahamadou said during an interview with the French media outlet France 24 on Monday. ECOWAS has given Niger's coup leaders one week to reinstate the country's democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazoum, and has threatened to use force if the demands aren't met.
