An official of the Mozambican Medical Association says doctors and other medical professionals hope the government will provide the necessary means for them to better serve the public. Dr. Henriques Viola, General Secretary of the Association, says those conditions include better salaries, restoration of risk subsidies for doctors, medicines, diagnostic equipment, better food for patients, and regular electricity for the hospitals. Last Thursday, the doctors suspended their months-long strike to allow for a productive dialogue with the government. But Dr. Viola tells VOA’s James Butty, doctors support the ongoing strike by nurses and other medical professionals.
