Mali Detains 49 Ivorian Soldiers, Calls Them ‘Mercenaries'
Mali's government described the 49 Ivorian troops seized upon their arrival in the country as "mercenaries," heightening tensions between the two nations. Ivory Coast said the soldiers’ deployment was part of a support contract signed with the U.N mission in Mali, which the U.N. later confirmed.
