A Malawian court has granted bail to former irrigation minister Charles Mchacha who was charged with corruption for allegedly using public funds to pay for his honeymoon hotel. For Nightline Africa, VOA's Peter Clottey spoke to Martha Chizuma, head of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, about the case.

A Malawian court has granted bail to a former minister charged with corruption. The Malawi Anti- Corruption Bureau arrested Charles Mchacha, a former irrigation minister, accused of using public funds to pay for his honeymoon at a hotel.

Malawi Anti-Corruption Bureau head Martha Chizuma says two other officials have been charged with abuse of office, theft and neglect of duty.

Opposition supporters say the arrest and charges appear to be politically motivated to weaken the group - - an accusation the anti-graft body denies. For more on the fight against corruption VOA's Peter Clottey spoke with Martha Chizuma, the executive director of the Malawi Anti-Corruption Bureau in the capital, Lilongwe.
