Kenya’s Opposition Leader Plans Nationwide Protests
More than 13,000 people took part in protests in western Kenya on March 10, according to eyewitnesses. Rallying support ahead of protests planned later in the month, Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga spoke to supporters in the region of Nyanza, his political stronghold. Odinga called for March 20 to be a day of peaceful protests across the country, and a major demonstration to be held in Nairobi, criticizing the current government’s failure to address the current cost-of-living crisis. VOA correspondent James Shimanyula has the story from the Kenyan capital.
