Health Report: World Polio Day
October 24th is World Polio Day — an occasion that aims to call attention to the illness and step-up efforts toward its eradication. Polio is a highly infectious viral disease that largely affects children under five. According to the WHO, wild poliovirus cases have decreased by over 99% since 1988. As of 2022, it remains endemic in Pakistan and Afghanistan. For more insight, VOA Africa Health Correspondent Linord Moudou spoke with Dr. Tunji Funsho, the Chair of Rotary’s Nigeria National PolioPlus Committee.
