Guinea’s military junta says it will hold a constitutional referendum sometime this year. The French News Agency (AFP) reports junta leader Colonel Mamady Doumbouya made the announcement Sunday. A referendum would be a big step in Guinea’s return to civilian rule after Doumbouya seized power in 2021. Faya Millimono, head of the opposition Liberal Bloc Party tells VOA’s James Butty that Guineans are eager to see the draft of the referendum.
