M23 rebels claim control of Goma, as fighting intensifies
A rebel alliance led by M23 militia said it had seized the city of Goma with a population of over 2 million people. The city, a major hub for displaced people and aid groups lies on the border with Rwanda. A little while back in a conversation with Africa News Tonight host Yeheyes Wuhib VOA reporter Sabiti Djaffar Al Katanty in Goma, said the government did not resist the incursion by the rebels for fear of collateral damage to civilians.
