Gambian Activists Speak Against Parliamentary Efforts to End Ban on FGM
Gambian activists took to the streets of the nation’s capital, Banjul, on Monday to protest debates by lawmakers that could overturn a ban on female genital mutilation, FGM. Human rights groups say FGM is disastrous for women’s rights worldwide, despite many communities continuing the practice as a right of womanhood, according to the United Nations.
