Mubrook el Eid! Most of this edition’s music and feature stories are connected to the annual celebration Eid al-Fitr. The holiday marks the end of Ramadan; the ninth month of the Islamic calendar observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. Music highlights include “Najeriya” by Wakar Sallah (Nigeria) and “Hayna” by Hatim Ammor ft Asma Lmnawar (Morocco). In the middle of the hour we depart from the Islamic holiday spirit for a few songs plus there’s Song of the Week “Sudden” by Nigerian singer Tekno. But we then return to round out the hour with more music celebrating Eid al-fitr! Finally, today’s program begins with the1987 global hit ‘Yeke Yeke’ by World music legend Mory Kanté The Guinean singer and multi-instrumentalist passed away May 22nd in Conakry.
