Eastern, Southern African leaders reiterate call for ceasefire in DRC
Leaders of Eastern and Southern African regional blocs on Saturday met for an unprecedented joint summit in Tanzania’s capital, Dar es Salaam, to find a solution to the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s eastern regions, where M23 rebels have gained territory amid fighting with the Central African nation’s army. The EAC and SADC jointly agreed to multiple steps to address DRC’s conflict. Included was “unconditional ceasefire” and “dialogue with non-state parties, including the M23.”
