Tunisia’s opposition is already preparing for next year’s presidential election, though many of its leaders have been imprisoned under allegations of “plotting against state security.” Such moves by President Kais Saied to bolster his power – additionally dissolving municipal courts in early March – have drawn international opprobrium. Speaking with William Lawrence, professor of political science at American University in Washington, VOA senior analyst Mohamed Elshinnawi asks whether a united opposition can reignite the democratic transition in Tunisia.
