Botswana police clash with protesters over failed bill to expand presidential powers
Botswana police clashed with protesters outside the National Assembly Wednesday as members of parliament voted on a bill that would have given the president sweeping powers to appoint civil servants holding key positions. Opposition legislators walked out while the remaining ruling party MPs failed to raise sufficient numbers to pass the bill. From Gaborone, Mqondisi Dube reports
