Analysis: Next Steps for Sierra Leone’s President Elect Bio
Sierra Leone’s incumbent president, Julius Maada Bio, was declared winner of the 2023 presidential election on Tuesday, earning himself a second term in office. The Electoral Commission said Bio won by more than 1.5 million votes — 56.17% of the votes cast. There was an immediate reaction over the transparency of the vote from Bio’s main challenger Samura Kamara, who claimed that the outcome was not credible.
