Analysis: Kenya looks to send citizens abroad for employment
Kenya recently announced that it will be sending “up to one million workers abroad annually” as it seeks to address a lack of high skill and advanced degree jobs in the country. Germany has become one of the main recipients of those workers, which signed an agreement with the African country to relax immigration requirements, although a February 23rd snap election may change that due to increased anti-immigration sentiments. VOA’s Esther Githui-Ewart spoke to Macharia Munene, a professor of history and international relations at United States International University in Nairobi, for more on how emigration trends will affect Kenya’s future.
