A Conversation with Zimbabwean Acapella Group Nobutu
Zimbabwe’s Southwestern industrial city of Bulawayo, Known for its rich cultural diversity and creativity is also the home to Nobuntu, an all-female acappella group that is in many ways breaking barriers. They are performers of a historically male dominated music genre known as Mbube, a style that often draws on themes from Ndebele folklore and stories. Tandela Moyo, Zanela Manenga, Joyline Sibanda, and Duduzile Sibanda tell Red Carpet that they started singing in the group after winning auditions held by a local music label.
