The alliance of rebel groups in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has declared a humanitarian ceasefire starting today, but the DRC government is dismissive of the move. UNICEF says the number of displaced people in the eastern DRC has surged the past few days because to fighting between Congolese forces and M23 rebels. On Chad’s border with Darfur, VOA met with refugees who tell harrowing stories of what the United States has described as acts of genocide in Sudan, allegedly by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
