Liberia Row Over Court Nomination
Liberia’s president-elect Joseph Boakai takes over control of the government from President George Weah on January 22, 2024. Weah’s last-minute nomination of Justice Minister Frank Musa Dean as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court has upset some lawmakers. Dean will replace Associate Justice Joseph Nagbe who resigned this month due to ill health. Some say Dean’s appointment should be handled by Boakai. Senator Prince Johnson tells VOA’s James Butty he will lobby colleagues to vote against Dean’s appointment.
