Environmentalist Faults Clean-Up of Nigeria’s Delta

Tension is rising in Nigeria’s restive Niger Delta as residents kick against what they call the slow pace of a promised clean up of vast areas of polluted farm lands and streams. This, as more spills are reported in the region, especially in Bayelsa state. Nimo Bassey, Director, Health of Mother Earth Foundation, a pro-environmental group is working to calm frayed nerves by visiting firms responsible for implementing a restoration policy called the Hydrocarbon Remediation Project. Bassey told Africa In Brief Host, Chinedu Offor, the situation in the area is volatile as people continue to lose their means of livelihood.
