Sierra Leone’s Education Minister David Moinina Sengeh says that his country’s decision to lift a decade-old ban on allowing pregnant girls in school did not come easy. It required courage to speak up, speak out, and persuade a President to change his views and his policies. That’s how Sengeh played an instrumental role in Sierra Leone’s shift to include pregnant girls in the classroom, and give them a chance to succeed. He’s written a book about that experience. It’s part parable, part practical guide to changing the systems that perpetuate exclusion in everyday life. And like all roadmaps, David Sengeh’s begins at home.
