The trial of Senegal’s opposition leader Ousmane Sonko for alleged rape is set to resume Tuesday in Dakar Meanwhile, Sonko appealed his conviction in March. Mamadou Lamine Diallo is an opposition member of Senegal’s parliament, and tells Daybreak Africa host James Butty, Sonko has decided to disobey the court citation because the charges are a politically motivated effort by President Macky Sall’s government to prevent Sonko from contesting the 2024 presidential election.
