The global organization Action Against Hunger is urging the international community to step in and close a huge funding gap for programs that make safe drinking water and sanitation accessible. The group’s new report says 2 billion people around the world lack access to drinking water while more than 4 billion do not have access to sanitation. It says a lack of access to clean water together with ongoing conflicts and climate change are exacerbating hunger in countries like South Sudan and Sudan. Bizuneh Assefa is Action Against Hunger’s water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) specialist in the Horn of Africa. He tells VOA's Nabeel Biajo the funding gap for WASH programs is contributing to global hunger.
