South Sudan in Focus: The Ethiopian Government says it regrets the loss of life as a result of a skirmish between the Sudanese army and a local Ethiopian militia; South Sudanese are expressing mixed views about Monday’s announcement by the Vatican delegating its Secretary of State to visit Kinshasa and Juba after the cancellation of Pope Francis’ visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan; The South Sudan government is dismissing a recent report on the status of religious freedom in the country which says a lack of rule of law, subnational conflict, impunity for violent crimes, and other factors impact negatively on freedom of religion; Authorities in the Ruweng Administrative Area rearrested one inmate and arrested a local chief after two inmates escaped from Pariang prison two weeks ago. The escaped inmates are senior army officers who were convicted of brutally maiming a 19-year-old man.
