Today's playlist includes bubu music (Janka Nabay), alternative (FOKN Bois), jazz (Azouhouni Adou), benga (Akothee) plus a lot of Nigeria and Mali. We pay special tribute to the world-famous composer, playwrite and ethnomusicologist, also known as the "Father of African Pianism" Akin Euba. Dr. Euba passed away April 14th. He was 84 years old. Concert pianist William Chapman Nyaho joins us to remember him. We listen to Nyaho performing two Euba piano pieces plus recordings from the archives of Yoruba folk opera, juju music, and of Dr. Euba theorizing about "Music Adapting in a Changing World" in the early 1970s. Song of the Week is “Dankèle” by Mali’s hottest Bambara band, Bamba Wassoulou Groove – Kwame Ofori joins me (virtually) to talk about the song and the group’s awesome Facebook performance! And finally, a few artists pop in throughout the hour to tell you about their new music and upcoming, Facebook Live performances exclusively for Music Time in Africa - FOKN Bois (Ghana), Elemotho (Namibia) and Blessing Chimanga (Zimbabwe).
