Mark Simakovsky, Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council and P.J. Crowley, former assistant secretary of state for public diplomacy, discuss the ongoing impeachment inquiry triggered by a July phone call between US President Donald J. Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. A whistleblower filed a complaint saying the call conditioned US military assistance to Ukraine on Kiev’s willingness to conduct investigations, which would amount to interference in the 2020 US election. Panelists examine the testimonies of career State Department officials and that of the top Ukraine expert on the National Security Council, Lt. Colonel Alexander Vindman, who felt it improper for Mr. Trump to demand that Ukraine investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter, for fear that doing so undermined US national security.
