Faysal Itani, Senior Resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, and Charles Lister, Scholar and Syria expert at the Middle East Institute, discuss with host Carol the current state of play in war-torn Syria in the aftermath of Turkey’s military intervention to counter the YPG, a Kurdish militia who Ankara sees as a threat. Lister and Itani discuss Washington’s disjointed policy and how Tehran and Moscow have bolstered the hand of Syrian President Bashar al Assad who, when faced with peaceful protests in 2011 in the context of the Arab Spring, chose to decimate his country and murder civilians rather than share power.
