History: The team’s first game ever was a match against the women’s team of Swaziland in 1993. Their name, Banyana Banyana or Girls Girls, is derived from the men’s national team Bafana Bafana or Boys Boys.
World Cup Appearances: They qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time in 2019, this tournament appearance will be their second-ever World Cup. They won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2022.

History: Women have been playing football in Nigeria since the 1930s. They have won 11 out of the 13 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
World Cup Appearances: The Super Falcons have appeared in every FIFA Women’s World Cup since the inaugural tournament in 1991. They are the only African women’s team to reach the quarterfinals in the World Cup. Nigeria is the only African country in the top 50 of FIFA’s Women’s team rankings.
Zambia
Nickname: Copper Queens
History: The continent's only women’s representatives in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Zambia became one of the first countries to have a women’s national team in 1982.
World Cup Appearances: 2023 marks Zambia’s first World Cup appearance for either gender. They won the COSOFA Women’s Championship in 2022. They finished third in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2022.
Morocco
Nickname: Atlas Lionesses
History: They won the 2020 UNAF Women’s Tournament. In 2020, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation revealed its four-year plan to help women’s football in Morocco.
World Cup Appearances: 2023 marks Morocco’s first Women’s World Cup appearance. They are the seventh ranked team in the Confederation of African Football.
