Nigerian basketball player Reuben Chinyelu, rated among the top players in the Basketball Africa League (BAL), is currently playing in his second season in the NBA sponsored league. The 19-year-old West African athlete is representing Mali’s Stade Malien, who finished top of the Sahara Conference and qualified for the playoffs tipping off in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali, in May. On this week’s edition of On Goal with Sonny & Muqbil: VOA’s Sonny Young and Muqbil Yabarow focus on the final Group H fixture between Ghana’s Black Stars and Uruguay’s La Celeste, which witnessed the South Americans defeating the West Africans 2-0. Football analysts say this game was important to fans of the West African nation as they hoped that the Black Stars would avenge a 2010 FIFA World Cup quarter finals loss to the South Americans which resulted from striker Luis Suárez stopping an almost certain Ghanaian goal in the dying minutes with a handball. Despite their victory, Uruguay’s La Celeste still witnessed an early exit of the global football tournament after securing an equal four points with second placed South Korea but scored less goals.
