October 10 is World Mental Health Day. Mental health impacts our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and ability to cope with stress, interact with others, and make decisions. Mental health encompasses our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. The World Health Organization says mental health conditions are increasing globally, and around 20% of children and adolescents worldwide have a mental health condition. Yet, many people do not have access to the care they need, or do not seek help. VOA’s Linord Moudou spoke to Rawle Andrews, Jr., the executive director of the American Psychiatric Association Foundation for a look into the state of mental health treatment in 2023.
