Ghanaian Social Enterprise Founder Provides Economic Empowerment for Women in Shea Butter Market

Rahama Wright, CEO and founder of Shea Yeleen, created this social enterprise which produces shea butter skin care products from women-owned cooperatives in West Africa. Rahama spoke to VOA’s Ndimyake Mwakalyelye alongside her Our Voices’ co-hosts Auriane Itangishaka and Amina Aliyu, about her journey and inspiration behind the creation of Shea Yeleen after volunteering for the Peace Corps in Mali. She explains how her organization empowers female shea producers and offers them five times Ghana’s minimum wage which significantly transforms their lives. Rahama also expresses the importance of showing these shea producers the value of their contributions within the global shea butter supply chain.
